Aussie rock royalty at Centennial Park Australia Day Festival

There’s no better way to celebrate Australia Day than relaxing with family and friends with yummy food and some great Aussie tunes… this year, the combined Rotary Clubs and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder have you more than covered.

Earlier this month super group Antipodean Rock’n’Roll Collective (ARC) were announced as the headliner and we kind of lost our minds. Made up of Aussie rock royalty Darren Middleton from Powderfinger, Davey Lane from You Am I, Mark Wilson from Jet and Kram from Spiderbait, is there a more fitting band to rock along to this Australia Day?

This year, the City are shaking things up by combining Australia Day festivities and the first Sunset at the Soundshell concert into one massive celebration- instead of the traditional Aussie day breakfast, the Rotary Clubs are putting on an evening feast of hot roast beef & gravy rolls, sausage sizzle and fresh fruit, all for a gold coin donation. Bargain!

Rotarian and all round local legend Esther Roadnight said that the Rotary Clubs and CKB have enjoyed a partnership for over 12 years. The change in the Australia Day program presented an exciting new challenge but as always, the combined Rotary Clubs and supporting businesses have risen to the occasion.

“Nothing has been too much trouble,” Esther said. “Goldfields businesses have been extremely generous, from donations to loaning the use of a commercial kitchen for food preparation. We have over 40 volunteers on the day, including Rotarians and representatives from local business”.

All of the money raised will go directly to supporting Rotary projects in 2018.

There will be a range of refreshments and activities on offer from community groups, all topped off with a pop-up bar by Beaten Track Brewery who will be selling their refreshing, locally brewed bevvies.

So, grab your mates, some gold coins and some camping chairs, and get on down to the soundshell at Centennial Park this Friday 26 January.

Festivities start at 5:30pm, but you want to get there nice and early for a good possie. (See our how-to guide for more tips on improving your Sunset at the Soundshell game).
